- Childs Park YMCA Opens Doors to Community

November 11, 2008 — The brand new Childs Park YMCA will have its first community open house on Saturday, November 15 from 11a.m.-2p.m. Tours, entertainment, and refreshments will be provided during the event which is free and open to the public.
- Ys Provide Support to Military Families
as part of $31M DoD Initiative

October 23, 2008 — As part of the new Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) and Department of Defense (DoD) Outreach Initiative, YMCAs across the Tampa Bay area will provide qualifying military families with access to youth development, family strengthening, and health and well-being programs at dozens of YMCA branches in Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, Manatee and Polk counties. The YMCA will underwrite the joining fee for eligible families and the DoD will fund the monthly membership fees, ultimately making YMCA membership available at no cost to these families.
- Childs Park YMCA Now Open

October 14, 2008 — The collaboration between the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg and the City of St. Petersburg was celebrated today as the partners gathered for the grand opening of the Childs Park YMCA.
The ceremony included comments from Mayor Baker and other city officials, Secretary Frank Peterman, Representative Darryl Rouson, members from the YMCA Board of Directors, as well as other community leaders.

- Y Teams Up With UF Wide Reciever for Youth Football Camp

May 13, 2008 — The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg, Florida Elite, Louis Murphy and other players from the University of Florida have teamed up to offer Murphy’s First Annual Youth Football Camp. The day camp will be held on Saturday, June 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with two different sessions available for sign up. The camp will be held at the Jim and Heather Gills YMCA located at 3200 First Ave. S. in St. Petersburg and is free to youth ages 12-15.
- Bright Future with a New CEO

April 25, 2008 — The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is very pleased to announce that David Jezek has been hired as the new President and CEO.
Jezek comes to the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg from the YMCA of the Treasure Coast located in Stuart, Florida. Here, Jezek was the Chief Operating Officer for more than 5 years. He was responsible for overseeing six YMCA branches in a four county service area. But Jezek’s experience and involvement in the YMCA goes back more than 30 years.
- New Bikes for 20 Children

April 8, 2008 — The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg and Paul’s Bike Club will be awarding 20 bicycles to children who have displayed good citizenship by demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith in YMCA programs. The Always Be Kind Bicycle Celebration will take place Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 10:30 AM. The ceremony will be held at the Jim and Heather Gills YMCA located at 3200 First Avenue South in St. Petersburg.
- Harbordale YMCA Celebrates Six Years of Service with Mayor Baker

March 19, 2008 — The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is celebrating the Sixth Anniversary of the Harbordale YMCA at their annual Mayor’s Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by International House of Pancakes. This community event will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Harbordale YMCA, located at 2421 Fourth St. S. in St. Petersburg. Mayor Baker will be on site to visit with community members and serve up some of his infamous Mickey Mouse pancakes!
- Put Play In Your Day

March 18, 2008 — Hundreds of kids and families from the St. Petersburg area are expected to attend the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg’s Healthy Kids Day on April 12, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Jim and Heather Gills YMCA, located at 3200 First Ave. S. This FREE, fun-filled day will teach children and families how to “Put Play in Your Day” by emphasizing the importance of daily activity and proper nutrition. This year, more than 1,600 YMCA’s throughout the country will host a Healthy Kids Day event.
- FREE Financial Planning Seminar with Helen Huntly of St. Petersburg Times

January 11, 2008 — The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg will be hosting a free financial planning and investment seminar on January 15, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. Lead by Helen Huntley, Personal Finance Editor for the St. Petersburg Times, the seminar will discuss such topics as personal finance, investments, and planning for the future, financially. Refreshments will be provided by Humana and the event is open to the public.
- Donations Needed for Christmas Program

December 18, 2007 — Since 1990, the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg has organized the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Christmas Program, which provides a traditional Christmas to 400 local families including more than 1,000 children.
