Building a Better Community with Our Youth
Our YMCA Youth Enrichment Programs encourage our youth to become the leaders of tomorrow through fun programs that will help them develop important social, scholastic and critical thinking skills.
Y-Achievers is an afterschool and summer camp academic program available to children in Kindergarten through eighth grade and is designed to support the curriculum and standards set by the public and private school systems. The program makes learning challenging and fun while focusing on activities that enhance the Sunshine State Standards and state test preparation.
The YMCA READS! program provides the resources necessary to help improve the reading levels of children in kindergarten to third grade while developing greater self-esteem and social skills.
Youth in Government
Since 1936, YMCA Youth In Government, or “YIG” for short, has given students around the country the opportunity to serve as part of a youth-run, youth-led model government process. The Florida YMCA Youth In Government program was founded in 1957, and for more than 56 years our delegates have been actively engaged with the issues that impact their families, schools, YMCAs, and communities.
Prodigy Cultural Arts Program
The Prodigy Cultural Arts Program offers 100% free art and music classes, including supplies, to students ages 6-19 in the greater St. Petersburg area. The program provides a creative-based curriculum for children who, otherwise, may not have the means to participate in such activities. Prodigy also offers extra services and resources to families from financial literacy to tutoring for a more holistic approach in an effort to increase family engagement.
The A-Team Advisory Council
The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg cares about teens, cultivating new leaders by creating opportunities for teens to contribute to their communities. Our teen program partners with families, schools and businesses, and the entire community to help provide brighter futures for young people.
Childs Park YMCA is home to the A-Team Teen Advisory Council, which is proudly sponsored by the Tampa Bay Rays Foundation. For youth ages 13 & up this program provides youth leadership and community service opportunities, and encourages positive teen fellowship and personal development.
