Wellness Center Facility Guidelines
General Guidelines
These guidelines apply to all areas within the facility unless otherwise specified in the guidelines for each area below.
- Facility Usage Guidelines by Age:
- Age 7 & under* must be directly supervised by a parent/guardian (18 & up)
- Ages 8 - 13 must have a parent/guardian on-site but may be in the Y unsupervised
- Ages 14 & up are permitted at the Y alone
- NOTE: These guidelines apply to the entire facility, with the exception of the Fitness Floor (see below) and when participating in specific programs. Inquire at Member Services with any questions about age guidelines for specific program offerings.
*Unless in a program
- Appropriate attire must be worn at all times. This includes sneakers or other appropriate, closed-toe, closed-heel and non-marking footwear, as well as acceptable workout attire. Clothing must reflect the YMCA core values. Explicit language or inappropriate graphics are not allowed.
- Our staff is here to help you. Please ask for assistance if needed.
- Smoking, including e-cigarettes and vaping, is prohibited on premises.
- The YMCA is not responsible for any items lost or stolen. Please secure your belongings in a locked storage space.
- Appropriate language and behavior is expected; Members may be removed from a program area or the facility for failure to follow usage guidelines and/or staff guidance
Cell Phone Guidelines
- Phone calls are restricted to the lobby and hall areas. No phone calls should be made in program areas (such as group exercise studios, Fitness Floor, or any area where other participants may be disturbed).
- Headphones must be used if listening to music.
- The camera feature can only be used in program areas, and photos of individual members are restricted to member approval.
- No phone usage is permitted in the locker rooms.
Fitness Floor Guidelines
- Fitness Floor Guidelines by Age:
- Ages 9 & under are not permitted on the Fitness Floor.
- Ages 10 - 13 must complete a Youth Orientation to use the Fitness Floor, are required to wear the correct color band upon entry, and must be within an arm’s reach of a parent/guardian at all times.
- Ages 14 & up have full access to the Fitness Floor and are permitted unsupervised. We encourage the completion of an Equipment Tour or Fitness Consultation prior to use.
- If you are unsure of how to use a particular machine or perform a certain exercise, please ask our staff for assistance.
- Food is not permitted and drinks must be in a closed-top container.
- Refrain from talking on your cell phone.
- Share equipment and allow others to “work in” when in between sets.
- Please re-rack weights and wipe down all equipment after use.
- Limit your use of cardiovascular machines to 30 minutes when others are waiting.
Gymnasium Guidelines
- Shirts must be worn at all times.
- If you need equipment, please ask staff for assistance.
- Food is not permitted and drinks must be in a closed-top container. An exception may be made if there is an event approved by the YMCA.
- Share the court. Allow others to play if needed.
- Pick up rules may apply; Inquire at your home branch.
- Only staff members are allowed in the storage area.
Locker Room Guidelines
- Adult locker rooms are for ages 18 & up. All younger members and guests should use the individual/private/family restrooms (or youth locker rooms at Jim & Heather Gills YMCA).
- Individual/private/family locker rooms/restrooms are to accommodate persons with disabilities, families or others who are seeking a private changing area.
- Lockers are for day use only. Locks left on overnight will be cut off and belongings will be held for a limited time in lost and found.
