What is Finance Park?

Established by the Pinellas Education Foundation, Finance Park is a reality-based, hands-on simulation for 8th grade students that enables them to build foundations for making intelligent lifelong personal finance decisions. Finance Park serves 10,000 students annually, with an emphasis on applying math and decision-making skills to manage a household budget.

At the culmination of a six week, integrated unit in school classrooms, students visit Finance Park to study different financial decisions to be made, consider the options available to them and actually construct a personal budget. Students are randomly assigned life profiles including marital status, children/dependents and household income, all of which create the framework for powerful lessons in financial literacy. Students are also encouraged to explore industry-specific career information available at the facility, inspiring the eighth grade students to explore options for their future.

About the Y's "Storefront"

The new YMCA Finance Park facility provides students with information about making sound healthy lifestyle choices within the framework of a well-rounded life and financial plan. Stations include activities like measuring your height and weight, building a well-balanced meal, analyzing the amount of sugar in various drinks and more.
