Youth Kickboxing

Youth Kickboxing at the YMCA

Girls Kickboxing & Self-Defense

Designed specifically for girls ages 10 – 15, this class offers a welcoming and supportive space to build confidence, strength and self-reliance through kickboxing and self-defense training. Participants will learn practical personal safety skills while developing greater self-awareness, resilience and trust in themselves. The program also encourages friendship, teamwork, and positive self-image, helping girls feel empowered, connected and confident both in and outside of class.

What is Kickboxing? Kickboxing is a modern, fitness-forward combat sport that blends boxing-style punches with kicks (and sometimes knees, depending on the ruleset). Classes usually center on bag work, pad drills, conditioning, and partner drills, with less emphasis on forms or ceremony. Belts and rank are less common, though some gyms use them. For youth, the focus is typically on cardio, coordination, and confidence, with light, protective sparring for older or more advanced students. It's the most workout-oriented of the three.
