The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is excited to welcome Dorothy Thomas as Executive Director of Early Learning! She will be overseeing the operation of all three YMCA Preschool Academies, including the new Lealman YMCA Preschool Academy opening in January, leading our Y in our mission of Youth Development.
Originally from Miami, Dorothy has worked in early childhood education for more than 30 years. Under her leadership, early learning centers have achieved many accreditations, including those from National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Accredited Professional Preschool Learning Environment (APPLE), Florida Coalition of Christian Private Schools Accreditation (FCCPSA) and Florida Gold Seal Certification.

YMCA teams up with Florida Blue Foundation to expand Water Safety classes to an additional 5500 Tampa Bay area families

The YMCA Safety Around Water program continues to expand in the Tampa Bay area thanks to the Florida Blue Foundation and a collaborative effort between five YMCA associations.

The new program, made possible by the Florida Legislature, is set to launch in 2019 and will provide scholarships for 75 Florida high school students through the Florida YMCA Youth In Government (YIG) program. Participants will earn up to six college credits in politics and leadership at USFSP, while gaining hands-on experience in government and public service.
The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg Diabetes Prevention Program has become the first such lifestyle change plan in Florida to receive full recognition by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
