YMCA Neighbor to Neighbor Christmas Program

About the Program

Embracing the true meaning of social responsibility, the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is once again teaming up with our community to bring the spirit of Christmas to nearly 400 families and more than 800 children. For 30 consecutive years, this program has provided families in need with the joys of a traditional Christmas.

Families receive a live tree, ornaments, holiday dinner, books and toys - as well as complimentary programs and services throughout the year:

  • Each child receives a free full season of youth sports in either aquatics, basketball, soccer or flag football
  • Parents receive free participation in healthy living and financial literacy workshops
  • Free guest passes to all YMCA family fun events

Help us deliver joy and hope this holiday season to those who need us — now more than ever.

Join hundreds of donors, volunteers and staff to help provide the magic and nostalgia of the Christmas season to the children of our community.

Creating a Safe Environment

The 2020 YMCA Neighbor to Neighbor Christmas Program will feature many modifications due to COVID-19. At the Y, our top priority is the safety of our participants, members, volunteers and staff. We've created online toy registries so that toy donations can be made from the safety of your home or office. Volunteer on-boarding events will be held virtually, and in-person events will be altered to allow for limited capacities, social distancing, and other safety precautions:

  • Participants, volunteers and staff are asked to remain socially distanced from others whenever possible.
  • Masks are required inside all YMCA facilities, in all common spaces. Masks are recommended outside Y facilities whenever social distancing is not possible.
  • All YMCA staff receive special COVID-19 training on health and safety procedures and guidelines.
  • The use of shared items is discouraged. Shared items and surfaces are regularly disinfected.
  • The use of hand sanitizer is encouraged.

Volunteer Opportunities

Help us with tree delivery and shopping events. Each event will have safety precautions that volunteers will need to follow, so please read the details completely. All volunteers must be age 16 & older. Some volunteering roles have an older age requirement; see specific role details. Any helpers under the age of 16 must remain with their parent/guardian at all times. The YMCA will not be able to provide supervision.

To ensure an accurate volunteer count, all individual volunteers (including those with a group) must sign up online following a 3-step process:

View the YMCA Volunteer Liability Waiver and review this document in advance. All volunteers will be required to sign this waiver upon check-in the day of the event, using a provided one-time use pen.
