*The Concussion training is required of all volunteer youth sports coaches before starting. The certificate of completion must be submitted to the Youth Sports Director.

Y ACHIEVERS

Harbordale YMCA, 2421 4th St. South, St. Petersburg

Volunteers provide tutoring assistance to elementary and middle school students. Minimum age 18.

 

YMCA Reads!

Perkins Elementary School, 2205 18th Ave. South, St. Petersburg
Douglas L. Jamerson Elementary School, 1200 37th St. South, St. Petersburg
Sawgrass Lake Elementary School, 1815 77th Ave. North, St. Petersburg

YMCA Reads! is an afterschool reading assistance and mentoring program providing opportunities for at-risk and low-income children in kindergarten through third grade to develop the reading skills they need to succeed in school.

Volunteers serve as reading mentors and choose two one-hour sessions weekday afternoons after school. Must be at least 16 years old and pass extensive background and fingerprint checks. Additional training provided.

 

Preschool Garden Attendant

Speer YMCA Preschool Academy, 2100 26th Ave. South, St. Petersburg

Do you have a green thumb? Are you passionate about children learning to eat right from the start and having access to fresh fruits and vegetables? If so, our garden at the Speer YMCA Preschool Academy could use your help!

The Preschool Garden Attendant will help oversee the general upkeep of the garden, including watering, weeding and planting. Tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and watermelon are just a few of the things our preschoolers enjoy harvesting! The schedule is flexible, but weekly attendance is preferred. Any amount of time you can contribute to making our garden bountiful is appreciated!

 

STEM Guest Speakers

Bay Point Elementary School, 5800 22nd St. South, St. Petersburg

Meadowlawn Middle School, 6050 16th St. North, St. Petersburg

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) guest speakers needed for middle schools.

Must be currently employed or recently retired from a STEM career and commit to one hour of speaking at one or more of our middle schools. Guest speakers provide students with an overview of his/her STEM career, educational requirements to get started in the field and share inspirational experiences!

 

Youth Sports

Jim & Heather Gills YMCA, 3200 1st Ave. South, St. Petersburg
Bardmoor YMCA, 8495 Bryan Dairy Rd., Largo

Coaches (must be at least 18 years old), referees/officials, practice helpers (assist coaches with drills, etc.), game-day workers (stats, clock, setup and breakdown). Weekly time commitment: About 2 hours.
