Angela Glenn, Healthy Living Director - Jim & Heather Gills YMCA
We are pleased to announce our new Director of Healthy Living for the Jim and Heather Gills branch, Angela Glenn! Angela brings over ten years experience within the Health and Fitness industry, including over six years as a Fitness Coordinator for Premier Health and Fitness and two years as Wellness Director for the Capital Region YMCA in Tallahassee. She is a certified Personal Trainer and also served in the Army National Guard.
We sat down with Angela and talked about what makes her so passionate about the Y, and how eager she is to work with members at Jim & Heather Gills YMCA.
Why do you love working for the Y?
I love the mission and core values of the YMCA. Nurturing and developing our youth, fostering conscious social change, and helping people from all walks of life find their wellness connection through healthy, transformational programs. There’s something for everyone at the Jim and Heather Gills YMCA, which provides families with a multitude of great resources, opportunities, and support to live their best lives.
Tell us about your love for fitness:
My love for fitness started at a very young age. I participated in every sport growing up from track and field, to soccer and volleyball. That love for fitness inspired me to pursue a career in health and physical education and become a certified personal trainer. I wanted to help people live healthier lives and have been doing so for over 15years!
Why did you want to come to St. Pete?
I wanted a fresh start in the health and fitness industry in a new city, and I was ready for change! St Pete is a beautiful, eclectic town conveniently located to Tampa, Orlando, and not too far from my hometown of Tallahassee. It was the perfect place and choice for a new career start with the Y.
How are you going to make a difference in our members’ health routines?
By bringing quality health and fitness programs to the Gills YMCA that will increase member participation and positively impact their lives. In addition to new programs, I plan to provide the assessment tools needed to help trainers and fitness instructors produce results for clients and members. There’s so much I want and plan on implementing at the Gills Y. Everything from wellness workshops and mindfulness seminars to onsite massage therapy and group heart rate zone training…and those are just my initial ideas.
What gets you charged up each day to work in the fitness industry?
Divine Purpose, and the hope of transforming and or touching someone’s life with the gifts that I’ve been blessed with; also the drive of helping people break unhealthy behaviors and develop better healthy ones.
